Bakersfield, California’s Davis was the ideal artist to set off the series. The solitary release on his self-financed Lifetime label has been an in-demand UK club spin since its release – in not only the northern soul scene, but modern soul and deep funk scenes as well. Its extreme rarity is a pity – the blissful mix of soulful vocals, strong four-on-the-floor rhythms, intricate horn arrangements and gritty, low-fi production transcend the record’s early ’80s release.
